Hook – Size 14 wet
Tread - Black
Tail – Brown Cock Hackle
Body – Peacock Herl
Rib – Copper Wire
Cheeks – Red Mylar Flash
Throat – Brown Cock Hackle

| Step 1 - Run a base of thread on the shank stopping directly over the barb of the hook. Pinch a small bunch of brown hackle fibers from a feather and tie them in as a tail. The should be equal to the length of the hook shank. |
| Step 2 - Tie in 2-3 strands of peacock herl and the copper wire for your ribbing. |
| Step 3 - Wrap the herl around the thread to form a rope and wind it up along the shank until you reach about 2/3rd's along the hook shank. Tie off the herl with a couple of thread wraps but dont cut off the remaining herl. Wrap the wire rib up the body in 3-4 open turns. Tie it off in front of the herl and trim waste wire only. |
| Step 4 - Tie in a strand of red mylar flash on each side of the fly at the same point as where the herl is tied off. |
| Step 5 - Take the remaining herl and make one full wrap behind the mylar and then start winding it forward. Wind the herl to just behind the eye of the hook forming the thorax. Tie off the herl and trim any excess away. |
| Step 6 - Take each strand of the mylar in turn and pull it forward to the front of the fly and tie it off to form the cheeks. These can both be done at the same time or one at a time. Once tied in trim off the waste material. |
| Step 7 - Pinch another bunch of hackle fibers about the same amount as used for the tail of the fly. Tie them in on the underside of the fly with the tips of the fibers reaching somewhere between the point and the barb of the hook. Tie off, trim ends, whip finish and varnish. |
