Step 1 - Run a thread base over the hook shank and tie in the tail just slightly shorter than the length of the hook shank. Also tie in the copper wire for your rib. Pheasant Tail Nymph 1
Step 2 - Tie in 3-4 strands of pheasant tail for the body of the fly. Pheasant Tail Nymph 2
Step 3 - Wrap the pheasant tail up the hook shank stopping at about 1/3rd of the shank length from the eye. Tie off the pheasant tail and wrap the copper rib up the fly in 3-4 turns. Also tie this off. Pheasant Tail Nymph 4
Step 4 - Tie in 6 strands of pheasant tail just where the body ends with the tips pointing out over the eye. Leave the butts hanging far enough out the back of the tie in point that you can pull them over the top of the thorax to form the wingcase. Pheasant Tail Nymph 5
Step 5 - Take the pheasant tail hanging over the eye and wrap it backwards over the tie in point and then forward again to just behind the eye to form a thorax. Tie them off and trim the ends. Pheasant Tail Nymph 6
Step 6 - Pull the pheasant tail butt ends remaining behind the thorax over the top and tie off. Trim the waste, whip finish and varnish. Pheasant Tail Nymph 6
